The mediums I used were acrylic on canvas and Gouache on paper, both mediums I can control the flow and density of the paint. I used photographs to inspire me, then added embellishments from my imagination, creating a colorful abstraction of the reality perceive.
I used loose brushstrokes to create abstracted colors that emphasizes the subject matter while applying layers to work toward as I continue to apply paint to achieve the desired outcome with the acrylic on canvas.
While painting with gouache I tried to replicate stained glass. Creating flow of colors that abruptly confined with black outlining to show the delicateness of the flowers.
Vandela Jasmine, born August 9th, 1988, in Seattle, WA, and raised in Spokane, has always been drawn to create art. Her bold, extravagant style, marked by bright colors and extremes, has been a defining characteristic of her work from a young age.
Currently, Jasmine's work is featured in an exhibition at the Edward Dean Museum and Gardens (September 28 to December 14, 2024). This exhibition merges color and history, with her unique acrylic paintings—framed in custom vintage pieces—set against walls transformed into a psychedelic blue sky with abstract clouds. Inspired by her love of art history, Jasmine also curated antiques from the museum's archives, including porcelain, jewelry, antique prints, and mother-of-pearl fans, blending historical elegance with avant-garde modernism to explore timeless beauty.
Jasmine moved to Southern California in 2017 and has since been an active member of the local art community. She studied various art forms at Valley College and graduated from Copper Mountain College in 2021 with an AA in Art History and Studio Arts. Her work has been featured in multiple shows, including the Glass Outhouse Art Gallery and Deman Gallery. She currently resides in Palm Springs and is pursuing further studies at California State University San Bernardino.
